When you are in business you can start to worry about everything and anything. Where should I advertise? Should I concentrate my marketing efforts on-line or off-line? How do I get new distributors and how do I keep my current distributors in the game? By worrying about every little detail you may be unconsciously sabotaging your business. Here are a few things that you may want to change.
First avoid focusing on long-term goals at the expense of short-term movement. Procrastination often masquerades as planning. Over planning takes your attention off what is happening in the present. When you neglect the present you can’t build a future. Successful entrepreneurs must not only have long-term goals but must also advance steadily toward short-term goals with daily action. It is better to pay more attention to short-term goals over long-term goals, because if you have a decent business plan the short-term goals will line up with a long-term plan and you will be progressing in the right direction.
Next put some systems in place. Systems can help you be more efficient. Setting up an organized system can assist you in abandoning what is no longer optimal and determine what is successful. Once you establish your procedures and processes into a system you can then teach others in you organization to do the same thing. Developing a system that others can follow is a responsibility of any business leader.
Find ways to innovate. If you aren’t constantly seeking new ways to improve your business, you won’t be aware of how much your business could improve. Don’t let new things frighten you; instead welcome the new so that you can see the possibilities for profitability, growth and sustainable practices. Just as you need to systematize your day-to-day work, you need to build innovation systematically into your business.
Remember self-sabotage is never done on purpose. It is most often a matter of doing the same things you have always done, following those old habits, without considering how your habits could harm your business. The simple solution is to identify and destroy those habits, and then focus on developing new habits that help build and improve your business.
